About Us

Here is a summary about the Communist Party of South Sudan (CPSS). It was established on June 25, 2011, only a month prior to South Sudan gaining independence on July 9, 2011, after a vote for separation from Sudan. SCP members from the southern region gathered in Khartoum on June 25, 2011, where they made several decisions, including the formation of the CPSS.

1.  Termination of membership of Southern communists as members of the Sudan Communist Party.

2. Announcement of the establishment of the Communist Party of South Sudan.

3. Continuation of contacts and links with the Sudan Communist Party based on solidarity which characterizes the international communist and workers’ movement.

4. Election of party organs: a central committee and a central secretariat.

The Central Secretariat after the meeting of the Central Committee which was elected decided that all southerners who were organized in the Sudan Communist Party should relocate to South Sudan in order to start the organization of the Communist Party of South Sudan that was established on June 25, 2011. Before leaving Khartoum, a joint press conference was held by the leadership of the newly formed communist party with the leadership of the Sudan Communist Party to announce the formation of an independent Communist Party for South Sudan and the voluntary separation of the two communist parties.

Justification for having a communist party in South Sudan

During the press conference for the new party’s launch, we explained the rationale behind the existence of a communist party in South Sudan. We cited Karl Marx’s study of social systems, in which he identified the presence of exploitation of one person by another. According to Marx, this exploitation can only be eliminated in a communist social system, where the working class holds power and controls the means of production.

  •  This noble task of ushering in a bright future for the working class requires establishing a communist party.
  • In South Sudan there exit in power South Sudanese who have taken over state institutions as their own and loot its resources down to the stump. There is need for a communist party to contain such behaviour.
  • In South Sudan the overwhelming majority of South Sudanese suffer from poverty, ignorance, diseases, famine, epidemics and wars and are dispersed all over the world in refugees’ camps and locally displaced in IDPs camps due to absence of good governance. It is the communist party that can provide good governance.
  • In South Sudan the able working South Sudanese are subjected to discrimination in getting jobs and foreigners are the ones who are given employment it is the communist party that can guarantee jobs for able working South Sudanese.
  • In South Sudan the labour force is being downsized and those who are left inadvertently go for months without salary only the communist party that can stabilize jobs to South Sudanese labour force and pay salaries on time.
  • In South Sudan the fiscal budget of the country gets the approval of IMF and the World Bank before it is rubber stamped by the legislature into law with the communist party in power a non-capitalist mode of development will be adopted thus denying imperialist tools like IMF and World bank opportunity to distort our economy.
  • In South Sudan the structural changes in the composition of the working class would not change the nature of capitalist exploitation nor the historic role of the working class, and their new allies to establish a new socialist society only the communist party is equipped to realize such a system.?
  • For us in South Sudan the absence of the socialist camp does not mean the complete collapse and demolition of the whole socialist power and national liberation movement for the countries of former socialist camp, the revolutionary forces and human rights activists   and workers’ parties have recorded in more than one country significant parliamentary and presidential elections’ wins

To summarize, the establishment of the Communist Party of South Sudan is deemed necessary to improve the political climate for all citizens. This will be achieved through the creation of a political alliance consisting of South Sudanese individuals dedicated to implementing the national democratic program for a national state. The goal is to build a national state where ethnic and tribal communities can develop civil and social relations, and share a common history, cultural identity, and traditional heritage. This diversity will be a source of national power rather than weakness. The national state will have a national market for the exchange of goods and services, and all communities will have equal participation in the leadership of national institutions at all levels. Power and wealth will be shared without prejudice based on religious, tribal, linguistic, or gender considerations.

A national state should provide free administrative, health, medical, and educational services to all its communities. It should have a democratic governance that upholds all human rights, including civil, cultural, political, and economic rights and protects the rights of minorities, especially women and the disadvantaged. This national state should ensure even economic development to establish a society of abundance and justice for the current generation while also reserving the right for future generations to have a better life. This is the vision of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of South Sudan.
